Maintaining Coverage for Coastal Emergency Communications
A reliable radio communication system covering a whole coastline can be difficult to achieve because of topography and distance, but it is crucial for emergency services and maritime operations. Without it there is the possibility that a rescue or an intervention could be delayed potentially costing lives. Below is an example of how Amphenol Procom recently delivered a VHF Filter and Combiner system for a European coastguard radio service covering their emergency area with improved radio signal coverage.
The requirement was to develop and deliver VHF radio combining systems for 16 sites around the coast. The VHF RF system required secure, reliable radio contact between the Coastguard on shore and their rescue boats and/or helicopters. The space in the control rooms was limited, therefore the maximise rack height specification had to be taken into consideration. To accommodate the mechanical height specification the Cavity Filters & Combiners were carefully developed to comply with the physical challenges and all electrical specs.
The result was a reliable VHF radio system for critical communication for the coast guards to operate in.
